Vision for Thrift Shop:

To complement existing community, social, and faith based efforts in assisting others in need as an expression of Christian witness.

Mission of Thrift Shop:

To offer low cost clothing and household items to generate funds for emergency and supplemental food assistance.

Profits from the sale of items from the Samaritan Thrift Shop will be applied to help supplement local food pantries.

Location:

The Thrift Shop is located in the building adjacent to Bayside Chapel, one mile west of Harris Teeter on Delaware Route 54. Plenty of parking is available near the shop entrance and signs will easily direct you to your destination.

How can I help? Volunteer Job Descriptions:

  • Thrift Shop Clerk
    Using a small cash register.
    Answering the telephone - and communicating to potential donors and shoppers information on the ministry, location, hours etc. Some light dusting/sweeping/cleaning as required in thrift store

  • Thrift Shop Helper
    Help put out merchandise in the store. Organize clothing racks, keep hangers going in the same direction, categorizing items, by department such as Men's, Women's, and Houseware etc. Also straighten merchandise, and assists clients directly with their selections. Create everyday and special holiday displays.

  • Thrift Shop Sorters
    Assist in thrift store warehouse.
    Sort, sift and price merchandise. Discarding unusable items to the dumpster. Assist persons with donated items from their car etc. Some light dusting/sweeping/cleaning as required in warehouse area.

A local ministry of St. Matthews by the Sea United Methodist Church, the Samaritan Thrift Shop is designed as a cooperative ministry effort of several local area churches and faith based groups.
